Finding Trinity for the first time, this is what you see. Funny thing is, that’s really not what we want to say at all. We don’t mind at all if people find themselves on our property, enjoying our fountain and gardens, even our playground. Of course we don’t want them enjoying our property by being destructive, but even then I’m not sure we’d prosecute anyone to the fullest extent of the law–realistically, wouldn’t we just want the vandals to fix what they broke?
We have these signs because the insurance people say we need them. Apparently if you don’t tell people to go away, and then such people hurt themselves, they can sue you for not warning them to go away. But doesn’t it seem like there’s got to be a better way, maybe….
“Welcome, now don’t hurt yourself”
“Welcome, be at peace, please don’t break anything.”
“Enjoy our fountain; don’t sue us if you fall in.”
“Nondestructive trespassers welcome; accident prone ones stay away!”
Well, we can probably do better than that! But what do we want to say? Something welcoming, and hospitable, no doubt, while still protecting our interests. How to say it? That’s what I’m wondering. After all, we just want a small, friendly (but responsible) sign. Any ideas of what to put on that friendly, responsible sign?
