Here it is: The Advent Sanity Pledge
In the name of remembering “the reason for the season,” and maintaining my perspective, sanity, and financial stability, I determine to do the following in the 24 days before Christmas:
- Attend regular worship services. (Trinity’s services are 8 and 10 on Sundays, 10 on Wednesdays.)
- Set aside and practice a specific time for prayer and reflection. (Could include any of the following: intercessory prayer using Trinity’s prayer list, BCP daily office, Forward Day by Day or other devotional reading, Bible study.)
- Say grace at dinner. (Could light the Advent wreath.)
- Intentionally give to “the least of these,” those in need who are not on my gift list. (I will designate a specific gift or portion of my gift budget to those in need. I could use the Advent mite box.)
- Work to build the Kingdom of God. (By, for example, spending time in service or volunteer work, inviting friends to church, making a particular, but secret, effort brighten someone’s holidays, spending specific time on church or service projects, or performing other acts of caring.)
- Pray for my church of Trinity, its members and ministries. (That I may remember whose I am and where I belong.)
- Other ways that will help me remember where my true hope and value lie: (Add personal ideas here if needed—whatever helps!)
Trusting that Christ, who has called me to a life of true abundance by following his way, will give me the grace to walk in his ways,
Signed:
