Holy Week from the Choir Loft

Let the Drama Begin!

Holy Week is a big deal at Trinity. The services from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday really amount to an epic Passion Play complete with a “cast of thousands”, high drama, fabulous music, tintinnabulations, grand processions, Bishops and Priests, robes and costumes, beautiful readings and powerful texts, special lighting and props AND it is Joyful, Sacred and Holy. What more could you possibly ask for? This year there will be a wide variety of music performed by the choir, bells, organ and violin. Of special interest is a group of four settings of the “Agnus Dei”. That is the “Lamb of God” text. Each one is from a different musical era including works by Haydn, Schubert, Faure and Willan. So you will have to attend all the services to hear the full set. On Palm Sunday Bishop Katherine will be with us and the music will be grand. The Trinity Bells will play a fabulous jazz arrangement of “Someone’s Knockin’ at My Door” and the Choir will sing a brand new, rousing setting of “Holy, Holy Holy”. During communion Annette Rico will play violin for the beautiful “Agnus Dei” from the Faure Requiem”. And that’s just the start of the week. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday will feature two amazing pieces of music; Ave Verum Corpus by Colin Mawby, a very dramatic work for organ and eight voice choir and a haunting “Christus Factus Est” by Roland Martin. For the Easter Vigil the choir will sing several unaccompanied works by Renaissance composers. The Offertory on the Day of Resurrection will be a Concertato on “I Know that My Redeemer Lives” for organ and Choir by Hal Hopson. and the Trinity Bells will again be playing. This sounds like a lot of stuff all crammed into one, amazing week…and it IS. And it is WONDERFUL! Do plan on attending the whole thing. You really should not miss out on any of the five part Pasion Play called Holy Week.
