Trinity is a church–our central purpose is to gather people together for worship and service. When gathering together is not possible, how can we fulfill our mission? We find our answer in personal spiritual practices, some ancient and some modern, described here to help you stay connected and grow in faith
The Christian life can be summed up in one commandment: Love God, and do as you please
St. Augustine
Grounded in the reality that as Christians we belong to the Body of Christ, personal practices do not help us become independent enterpreneurs of spirituality–as if there were such a thing! Christians belong to each other as well as to God. Still, different prayer styles work for different people at different times. Keep in mind that all prayer, bringing you closer to God, will result in you more closely imitating Christ: loving what he loves and doing what he would do. In the words of St. Augustine, the Christian life can be summed up in one commandment: Love God, and do as you please.
Practices of Virtual Community

Personal Practices
- Daily Office: Daily prayer is central to the Episcopal identity, and it has never been easier than now. Using this website, you can follow the daily readings, using the structure of Morning or Evening Prayer as found in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. You can even sing along with the hymns!
-
Examen: A review of the day popularized by the Jesuit Order, the process consists of five steps:
- Pray for light to understand the day that is past.
- Reveiw the day in thanksgiving.
- Review the feelings that accompany this replay.
- Choose one feeling, positive or negative, and pray about it.
- Look forward to the day to come.
- Daily intentions: Choose a word for guiding your day. Possibilities: Hope, Beauty, Curiosity, Empowered, Peace, Accomplish, Rest, Serve, Change . Using this word as your lens, how do you see the Spirit's presence and call in your life?
- Journaling: Write your thoughts--you might even use one of the practices listed above.
- Move: Exercise can be prayer! Try repeating a phrase or scripture verse as you walk or move. Short verses work best: Create in me a Clean Heart. Lord have mercy.
