At the interfaith 9/11 service in San Diego, this prayer was offered by a Muslim youth representing his faith tradition. It comes from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer–more “common” than we realize! It is indeed a prayer we can all share:
O God, you made us in your own image: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infest our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work though our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne. Amen
