Haven House Dinner is Interfaith Community Services’ shelter for the North County Escondido area. Trinity has a “Haven House Dinner Ministry”, in which parishioners shop for, cook, and serve evening meals on the second and last Thursday of each month.
Here’s how it works. Co-Leader Jan McDaniel determines the menu and puts together a sign-up sheet of shopping baskets of the needed items. Shoppers (we call them “provisioners”) purchase the ingredients/food items and either drop the items off at the parish hall, or at ICS on the day of the meal. On dinner day, Co-Leader Cindy Mayo collects the items left at church around 4pm, and gets things started at ICS when the cooks arrive at 4:30. Then good things really start happening! Servers start serving the dinner as soon as the cooking is done, usually between 6:00 – 6:30 pm, and the enjoyment begins! Trinity has a reputation for serving the best meals at Haven House! Residents really enjoy Trinity’s “home cooking”, and appreciate having a hot, nourishing and delicious meal “made from scratch”.
It’s an easy ministry to participate in. Just sign up with Jan McDaniel to have your name added to her email distribution list. She sends out an email about five days before each dinner with a link to the menu/signup list. Choose from the various options and sign up for what you want to do. If you are unable to do anything that dinner, that’s OK. Just do it when it fits your schedule. But getting on the email list ensures that you have the opportunity to participate whenever the time is right for you.
